泰顺县的廊桥无论从结构还是用途上都拥有着丰富的历史建筑类型。历史上廊桥又称为“彩虹桥”，首次被描绘于张泽端的《清明上河图》
The covered bridges of Taishun are a rich historical architectural type, both in terms of structure and use. Historically, these bridges were referred to as the “Rainbow Bridge” and were ?rst depicted in the painting "Qingming Shanghetu" by Zhang Zeduan.廊桥通常按照风水沿着古老的交通要道建造，集建筑、景观和美学为一体。这些独特的结构承载了多种功能。首先，这座桥曾是背负货物的旅者或农民的理想休息场所。在恶劣的天气或长途旅行中，人们可以在桥的庇护中过夜。农民和渔民可以出售他们的农产品、肉禽和水产，营造了非正式的经济活动和活跃的市场环境。The covered bridges were built along important ancient roads and often in accordance to principles of Fengshui, thus integrating architecture, landscape, and aesthetics. These unique structures also hosted various programs. First and foremost, the bridge was an ideal resting place for travelers or for farmers, carrying their goods. In inclement weather, or along longer journeys, people could stay the night in the shelter of the bridge. Farmers and ?sherman could sell their produce, meat, and ?sh, generating an informal economy and lively market place environment. 此外廊桥曾承载着宗教传播和祈福的作用。在走廊的尽头、中间或桥阁楼中都包含道教或佛教的神龛。人们在廊桥举行祭祀仪式和宗教仪式，农民祈求丰收、身体健康以及这座桥本身的安全保护。优雅的无柱建筑解决了水路沿线的拥堵问题，和暴风雨期间船只撞入桥柱的常见问题。The covered bridge would also perform a religious function, containing a Taoist or Buddhist shrine in the gallery, either at the end, in the center, or in the bridge attic. The bridge would host sacri?ce rituals and religious o?erings, and farmers would pray for a bountiful harvest, the health of their families, and the safety and protection of the bridges themselves. The elegant pillarless construction eliminated congestion along the waterways and the common problem of boats crashing into bridge pillars during storms.

大赛内容及要求
Competition Requirements
本次比赛要求学生研究廊桥这个引人入胜的先例，并为温州肯恩大学校园提出一种新的桥梁设计与建造的建议。学生团队将在温肯校园内进行选址，并提供成熟的设计的图纸和方案的物理模型（1:50）及A1尺度的展示板。
This competition asks students to study this fascinating historical precedent and propose a new bridge design for the Wenzhou-Kean campus. The student team will make a site selection on the WKU campus and provide drawings of the mature design and a physical model (1:50) of the proposal and A1 scale display boards.
每个竞赛组不超过5人。报名注册截止时间：2021年6月8日，桥梁的大小应根据设计的需要而定。
No more than 5 people per competition group. Registration deadline: June 8. The bridge size should be justi?ed by the needs of the design. 根据大赛概念及设计目标，设定以下基本评审原则：
The following evaluation criteria are determined according to the concept of competition and design goals:
对廊桥先例的理解和有关元素的运用：根据设计要求，需在设计中体现廊桥元素，并尊重传统营造技艺，充足表现其形式和功能，能够充分满足命题要求及诉求。
Understanding of the precedent of the covered bridges and the use of relevant elements: according to the design requirements, the design needs to reflect the elements of the covered bridges, and respect traditional construction techniques, adequately express its form and function, and can fully meet the requirements and demands of the proposal.项目选址合理：根据大赛命题及设计要求，需充分尊重项目在地文化、建筑特色、管理要求等，并充分考虑在地自然特点和校园周边环境。Reasonable project site selection: according to the proposal and design requirements of the competition, the culture, architectural characteristics and management requirements of the project site should be fully respected, and the natural characteristics of the site and the surrounding environment of the campus should be fully considered.设计的结构可行性和创新的可持续价值：根据命题要求，要求桥梁结构合理，造价节约并具有可持续性，具有创新性的建筑美学营造。
Structural feasibility and innovative sustainable value of the design: according to the proposal, the bridge is required to be structurally sound, cost-efficient and sustainable, with innovative architectural aesthetics created.
