*廊桥是指桥上建有桥屋的石、木构桥梁。木构桥梁含简支木平桥、八字支撑桥、伸臂木平桥、编木拱梁桥；石构桥梁含简支石平桥、石拱桥等。

会议缘起：2004年金秋，来自北京、上海、南京、杭州、福州等地的中国廊桥研究者们,会聚在浙江省香菇之乡--庆元县，首次在国内召开了浙闽两省木拱廊桥保护与开发研讨会。来自浙闽两省三市五县的建筑、文化、旅游以及各级部门的专家和管理者与会参加了研讨。会议对中国廊桥的历史发展、保存状况、面临的困境以及研究、保护和利用等诸多方面进行了广泛的探讨和议论，一致通过了"开展浙闽两省木拱廊桥保护开发区域合作"的倡议书，并成立了中国廊桥保护与开发协会筹备委员会。倡议书对拥有廊桥资源的中国广大地区的各级管理者、专家和学者发出号召，并联合国内外此领域的专家学者和其它学术力量，齐心协力，努力挖掘、整理廊桥资源和文化，为保护和综合利用开发廊桥文化资源，做好组织、协调和基础研究工作。在庆元会议进行期间，来自中国廊桥之乡--浙江省泰顺县的代表提议由他们承办第二届浙闽廊桥研讨会。此后，在浙江省建设厅、浙江省文物局以及上海交通大学的各级领导和国内外学者的大力支持下，在中共泰顺县委、县政府的具体策划下，第二届浙闽廊桥研讨会升格为"第一届中国廊桥国际学术研讨会"，将于2005年11月23日至27日在杭州与泰顺县举行。
杭州是浙江省的省会，位于美丽的西子湖畔。在这里举行中国廊桥国际学术研讨会，一定会给各位与会代表留下深刻的印象和美好的回忆。泰顺县是中国廊桥之乡，是中国生态示范县。近年来，泰顺县通过大力开展古廊桥的保护和宣传工作，使泰顺廊桥成为一张通向全国乃至世界的"名片"。今年浙江省人民政府已将泰顺廊桥列入浙江省第五批文物保护单位，并列入浙江省向国家推荐申报世界历史文化遗产五个项目之一。但是，在经济日益发展、城镇建设步伐加快的今天，保护廊桥的重要性和紧迫性已越来越突出。泰顺县目前面临的问题在中国廊桥泛存的地区有着代表性。
中国廊桥国际学术研讨会是组织中外专家和学者研究廊桥的历史、科学和艺术价值，全面了解中国廊桥保护现状和存在的问题，研究保护与开发利用的政策，制定一套行之有效的保护体系，使中国廊桥的保护工作在未来时间内有一个明确的工作思路和发展目标。基于此，组委会希望能每两年定期在国内各地举办中国廊桥的国际学术研讨会，将中国廊桥的保护、研究与开发工作推向更高的层次和更广泛的领域，会议竭诚邀请国内外专家与会共同探讨。

<H3 0cm 0cm 0pt">The motivation of the Conference</H3>
In autumn 2004, the researchers of Chinese Lounge Bridge from Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Fuzhou etc. gathered in Qinyuan County of Zhejiang Province to participate in the First Conference on the protection and development of the timber arch bridges in Zhejiang Province and Fujian Province. The architectural, cultural, tourism experts and administrators from the three cities and five counties in the two provinces presented at the conference. On the conference, lounge bridges’ historical development, conservation, status quo, research, protection, utilization and many other aspects were widely discussed. The written proposal Launch the Regional Cooperation of Timber Arch Bridge’s Protection and Development in Zhejiang Province and Fujian Province was passed, and the Preparation Committee of Chinese Lounge Bridge’s Protection and Development Association was founded. The written proposal suggests that the administrators, experts, and scholars from China should try to find out and arrange the resource and culture of Lounge Bridge together with the domestic and foreign scholars, and do the organization, cooperation, and basic research better for the protection, comprehensive unitization and development of the Lounge Bridge’s cultural resource. During the conference, the representatives from the home of Chinese Lounge Bridge, Taishun County in Zhejiang Province, proposed that they would host the Second Conference of the Lounge Bridges in Zhejiang Province and Fujian Province. Later, with the support of the administrators of the Construction Bureau of Zhejiang Province, the Cultural Relic Bureau of Zhejiang Province, and Shanghai Jiaotong University and the scholars home and aboard, and the government of Taishun County, the Second Conference of the Lounge Bridges in Zhejiang Province and Fujian Province was promoted to be the First International Conference on Chinese Lounge Bridge and is to be held in Taishun and Hangzhou from Nov. 23rd to Nov 27th in 2005.
 The International Conference on Chinese Lounge Bridge to be held in Huangzhou the capital of Zhejiang Province on beautiful West Lake will make a deep impression and happy memory on the participants. The Taishun, the home of Chinese Lounge Bridge, is a Chinese ecological Manual County. In recent years, Taishun Lounge Bridge has become a symbol to the country as well as the world through the protection and propaganda of the ancient lounge bridge by the government of Taishun. This year the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province has placed the Taishun Lounge Bridge into the fifth State Protected Monuments of Zhejiang Province and one of six projects that will be recommended to the country to apply for the world historical cultural inheritances. At the same time, with growing economic and widely urban construction, the importance and urgency of protecting lounge bridges are becoming more and more visible. The problem Taishun government faced is a typical one in the area where the Chinese lounge bridges widely existed.The International Conference on Chinese Lounge Bridge is to be held in order to organize the domestic and foreign experts and scholars to research the historical, scientific and artistic value of Lounge Bridge; have a general grip of the existing circumstances and problems on protecting Chinese lounge bridge; investigate the policy of protection and utilization and make a effective protective system to make the protection of Chinese Lounge Bridge have definite work thoughts and development objection. So the committee hopes that the International Conference on Chinese Lounge Bridge be regularly held in every part of our country every two years and push the protection, research and development of Chinese Lounge Bridge into a higher lever in more widely fields. The conference warmly invites domestic and foreign experts to participate and discuss together.
